The second episode of Claressa Shields, the all-access series available exclusively on ESPN+, premieres on Thursday, August 12 and will take audiences inside the thrilling Professional Fighters League MMA debut of the two-time gold medalist.
With the eyes of the sports and MMA world focused on her fight, Shields was determined to prove the doubters wrong as she embarks on a journey to become the first person to hold world titles in two combat sports simultaneously.
Facing off against Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt Brittney Elkin, Shields was challenged in the first two rounds of the June 10 bout by the seasoned MMA veteran but roared back and used a relentless fury of punches to earn her first MMA victory via TKO in the third round.
Shields returns to the PFL SmartCage on October 27 when she takes on Abigail Montes at the PFL World Championship, when six world titles and $6 million will be up for grabs across six divisions.
The 12 PFL World Championship fighters will be determined this month as the league hosts three win-or-go-home playoff events on Aug. 13, 19 and 27 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The action kicks off this Friday at 5:30pm ET on ESPN2 and streaming platforms as former world champions Ray Cooper III and Rory MacDonald headline the first playoff event which features the top contenders across the welterweight and lightweight divisions.
